Better Late Than never!

This here is a Ultrasound picture of Baby McDowell at 8 weeks, and since that doctor's visit, I was either too sick or just completely forgot to schedule the other 2 doctors appts I needed in my 1st trimester.
Needless to say, I have been uneasy, and unsure, for the past 8 weeks, to see if everything was ok. So I was finally able to get in, and FINALLY heard the baby's heartbeat today! It gave me the peace of mind I needed and further, permanately put smiles and mine and Casey's faces! That is a sound we will never forget! Occasionally we heard a scratch sound, and the doctor said when you hear that, it means the baby is moving or kicking. I'm now 16 1/2 weeks and will soon go in for the "official" ultrasound in just a week and a half where we find out what IT is!

ON another note, I've been looking online everywhere for cribs: Craigslist, Toys R Us, Potterybarn?, and much more. Here is my thinking: For a while I was like, why not just buy a cheap crib that someone else had, and if there is anything wrong, we can fix it up before January.... THEN I thought, why would I do that? Why not buy a new crib that I know wont have anything wrong with it, and will last me comfortably for all my next babies? So, then I began thinking, well, I have a $100 gift card to Pottery Barn, what can I get for that? answer: a bath towel with a cute little animal hood for the little baby, nothing even close to putting a dent in their bagillion dollar cribs.

So I have a few questions for any mom that ever reads this:
1) Where did you get your crib?
2) Was is new or used?
3) Is a solid wood crib better than the plastic made ones?
4) How much is too much for a crib? I wouldn't go past $230... is that too much?
5) If I did pay 230, it would be for a crib that turns into a todler bed, and full bed frame.. is that still too much or even worth it or just stupid?

  1. We got ours off of Craigslist for I think, $50. My mom found it and drove it up to us from Utah. It has been great. I like the idea of the ones that convert to a toddler bed and a full size bed, but that wouldn't have worked for us. Our two kids are so close together that we either needed two cribs or a crib and a toddler bed (which is what we ended up doing). So keep in mind your plans for future children... if you plan on having more than one, will you be able to use the conversions or will you always be needing a crib?

Good luck! It's so hard to know what's going to be best for you because every family and even every baby in a single family can be so different!
